An inspector visit can be routine, complaint-driven, or triggered by a notifiable incident. Either way, how you respond in the first hour can shape the outcome for your people, your operations, and your legal exposure.
Hosted by Robert Walters in Brisbane, this Brisbane members networking event will walk through what to expect when a Workplace Health and Safety Queensland or Electrical Safety Office inspector arrives, including why inspectors may attend without prior notice, how they will explain the purpose of the visit, and what they can do on site.
We will unpack practical steps for duty holders and WHS professionals, including how to manage the arrival, who should accompany the inspector, and how to support worker engagement during interviews and document review. We will also cover common outcomes, from immediate rectification through to notices and enforcement action, plus what review rights may be available.
Importantly, we will discuss when and how to engage legal advice, including considerations around legal professional privilege during serious incident response and internal investigations, while still cooperating appropriately with inspector powers and requests.

She is passionate about translating complex safety challenges into clear, effective strategies that create safer workplaces and lasting organisational improvement.
Elias Jeha – Senior Associate, Workplace Relations, Employment and Safety Mills Oakley
Elias Jeha is a highly experienced lawyer with over 27 years of expertise in work health and safety (WHS)
regulatory law and enforcement. In addition to his legal qualifications, Elias is a certified WHS professional
with a strong background in direct safety advisory roles across the mining, construction, services, and
manufacturing sectors.
With extensive experience in both the public and private sectors, Elias has worked with regulators,
prosecutors, and duty holders across a broad range of industries. His deep understanding of regulatory
compliance and enforcement is complemented by hands-on operational experience, having previously
worked as a shotfirer in an open-cut coal mine and operated a variety of plant and equipment.
