Managing Process Safety and Process Hazards

This online program will cover the fundamentals of process safety, including an understanding of what process safety is, how it is similar and how it differs from OHS and how it can be effectively managed.

It also covers some underpinning science to understand the different hazards and how they become consequences as well as the practical application of controls from an engineering perspective.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Explain the similarities and differences between OHS and process safety
  • Be able to identify the basic principles of process safety risk assessment, including how to reference engineering drawings
  • Identify the importance of Management of Change from a process safety perspective and apply it
  • Be able to identify common process hazards, including the underpinning science, hazardous substances (from a PS perspective) and ignition sources that exist in their workplace
  • Identify process safety consequences that could occur in their workplace and explain how they are evaluated and displayed, including fires, explosions and toxic effects
  • Explain the principles of inherently safer design and how they can be applied

Who's it For

This program is designed for OHS practitioners who work in major hazard facilities and anyone interested in understanding process safety.

It will not make you a process safety expert but will provide a baseline understanding so you can identify process safety hazards and engage in risk management with process safety professionals.
