A good news story in the Canberra times of the return to work of a man following an injury where he “sliced off 2.5 centimetres of his left middle finger while cutting a piece of timber” a fortnight ago.  The injured worker has returned to work at the Cotter Dam project where he is assisting in re-training other carpenters using power tools to avoid similar incidents in the future.

The accident, which happened less than a fortnight ago, was disappointing for a work site which had markedly improved its safety record this year, according to Work Safety Commissioner Mark McCabe.

In regard to the latest accident, an ActewAGL spokesman said the man. The circular saw he was using while building the formwork had kicked back. The finger could not be re-attached. ''The man is well and returned to work on Tuesday on light duties,'' the spokesman said.
