SAFETY IN ACTION CONFERENCE 2010 - "LIVING SAFELY"
20 April - 22 April 2010, Melbourne Convention Centre

Dear SIA Members

The Victoria Division (Inc) of the Safety Institute of Australia (Inc) is proud to announce that registrations are now open for the SAFETY IN ACTION CONFERENCE 2010.

This major annual conference and the associated Trade Show (which will feature over 350 exhibitors at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre) will once again be conducted in conjunction with the Australian Exhibition & Conferences (AEC).

We are also very proud to announce the inaugural Dr Eric Wigglesworth AM - Memorial Lecture to be delivered by Professor Patrick Hudson on the evening before the Safety In Action Conference 2010. The conference program provides all relevant details. This lecture has been organised by the SIA College of Fellows and is supported by the Menzies Foundation.

In partnership with WorkSafe Victoria and our Major Sponsor DownerEDi we have developed a diverse conference programme with more than 70 Australian and international speakers to bring you up to date with contemporary issues and practice in OHS and to provide opportunities for you to build your capability as a practitioner.

The conference theme is "Living Safely" and each of the three days of the conference promises to deliver exceptional content:

The opening breakfast on Day One of the conference features Captain Terry Vickers, Director of Aviation Operations in Antarctica, while our keynote speakers over the three days are Susan Heron, CEO Australian Institute of Management - VIC & TAS; Barry Sherriff, Partner at Norton Rose; Andrew Hopkins, Professor of Sociology at Australian National University; and Stan Krpan, currently Acting Executive Director, Workplace Health and Safety, Worksafe Victoria;

Day 1: Commit features a CEO / Leaders stream ‘Climate for Change in OHS' and an OHS Educator's stream with leading academics examining ‘The State of Play in OHS Research'. Day 1 also includes a Youth Injury Prevention seminar conducted by The KIDS Foundation; and (for the first time) a free session for Health and Safety Representatives (HSR's) which features Phyl Hilton, the Worksafe Victoria HSR of the year in 2009 sharing his experiences on being an effective HSR. Day 1 will conclude with an OHS Roundtable Forum titled "Safety a Wicked Problem";

Day 2: Refresh visits fresh approaches to OHS fundamentals such as Contractor Management and Culture Change / Safety Leadership, as well as Contemporary issues in OHS; while

Day 3: Grow is dedicated to your professional development and covers Strategic and operational planning for OHS, OHS training and Workplace health and wellbeing.

The Safety in Action Conference is the premier SIA/AEC event on the Victorian and National Health & Safety calendar - as a practising OHS professional you cannot afford to miss out on the exceptional program for 2010. Please note that the cost of attending the 2010 conference has been maintained at the 2009 rate because we want you to make an investment in your professional development and join us and your colleagues for a challenging and stimulating event. We look forward to seeing you there.
