Industry news

Dear SIA Members,

Planning is now well under way to deliver next year's Safety in Action Conference which will be held in the magnificently designed new Melbourne Convention Centre located next to the Exhibition Centre.

The theme for the conference will be Living Safely and will be supported by sub-themes to ensure the program has a strong health and safety focus on major industry sectors, topical issues, special interest areas and continuing professional development.

The planning committee headed by Lindsay Pritchard comprises the following people. Sue Pilkington, Scott Puddy, Gary Thexton, Michael Edwards, Debra Burlington, Rachael Kelly , Cassie Chadwick, Gary Lawson-Smith and Hanna Hamilton of AEC.

A number of new formats and innovations are under consideration including a closing address on the final day.

The final program will also be informed by feedback from delegates who attended this year's conference and survey results gathered from the 2008 conference.

The survey results are expected to be released shortly and will assist the committee in identifying and locking in preferred streams and conference formats.

Discussions are also underway around what streams are likely to be of interest and have the widest appeal to specific audiences. This will result in the development and promulgation of a Call for Papers.

A meeting will be held for all interested volunteers in late August (details on date, time and venue TBA) and we welcome further contributions and thoughts via
