To all SIA Members and OHS academics and researchers

In his Organisational Progress Update of the 2nd July, the SIA Chief Executive Officer announced the grant by WorkSafe Victoria of $391.400 to support the development and implementation of a core body of knowledge for OHS generalists. This project is "owned" by the Victorian Health and Safety Professionals Alliance (HaSPA) with the financial management by the Safety Institute of Australia. An Information Sheet  (attached link) on the project was circulated on the 17th August.

The planning and data collection for the project has commenced with the first step being an invitation to all universities conducting OHS professional  education programs at the undergraduate or post graduate levels to provide information on the content and structure of their programs. A second source of input at this early stage is a Professional Reference Group convened by the Dean of the College of Fellows. Input will be sought from other sources as the project progresses.  In the interim any person is welcome to provide comment on the Education Discussion Forum.

Any university OHS course provider who has not received a request for information should contact the project manager, Sally Bennett at

A detailed paper is provided for those interested in the structure and approach guiding the project.
