The SIA is a proud strategic partner of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH), through forums such as the Congress of Occupational Safety and Health Association Presidents (COSHAP) and the Health and Safety Professionals Alliance (HaSPA).

Under this partnership, Ms Kerrie Burton, the AIOH Education Co-ordinator, has provided information on Welding Fumes and Gases Seminars planned to be conducted by the AIOH during March and April 2009 in various locations around Australia and has again kindly extended an invitation to SIA members.

WELDING FUMES AND GASES SEMINARS - Melbourne (0900-1700, 10 March); Launceston (0900-1700, 12 March); Adelaide (0830-1630, 18 March); Perth (0900-1700, 19 March); Sydney (0830-1630, 7 April); and Brisbane (0900-1700, 8 April).

This seminar will provide an introduction to common types of welding, the hazards associated with exposure to welding fumes and their control. Questions and discussions on relevant topics will be encouraged.

Topics will include:

  • An introduction to common types of welding;
  • Fumes and gases which may be produced;
  • Health effects of these fumes and gases;
  • Outcomes of fume study;
  • Assessment of fume and gas exposures; and
  • Exposure minimisation techniques.

SIA members are being offered a 10% discount on the non-member price. The AIOH has requested that SIA members wishing to attend a seminar should identify themselves on the registration form as an SIA member to receive the discounted registration fee.

SIA members will also be eligible to earn one Continuing Professional Development (CPD) point from attendance at such one-day seminars.
