Guest Speaker: Neil Storey - Director of Plant and Structures, Safe Work Australia. "Model Work Health and Safety Legislation and its impact on the Construction Industry".
Neil joined the Australian Public Service in 2001 after working in the construction and mining industries for over 15 years and completing Masters Degrees in both Occupational Health and Safety and energy efficient building design.
Neil initially joined the then National Occupational Health and Safety Commission (NOHSC), moving to the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations in 2003 to deliver the OHS outcomes of the Royal Commission into the Building and Construction Industry.
This work included the creation of the Federal Safety Commissioner to improve safety outcomes on major Commonwealth building projects.
After delivering a new 45,000 square metre office complex for the Department of Health and Ageing in 2010, Neil joined Safe Work Australia in February 2010 as Director of Plant and Structures. In this role Neil is working to deliver the plant and construction elements of the model Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation and related model codes of practice.
