Dear SIA Members,
As you will be aware, the 2009 Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission was established on 16 February 2009 to investigate the causes and responses to the bushfires which swept through parts of Victoria in late January and February 2009. The Commission delivered its Interim Report on 17 August 2009. A Final Report is due in July 2010.
The SIA' National Technical Panel (NTP), under the chairmanship of Dr George Rechnitzer FSIA, lodged a major submission to this Royal Commission in May 2009. It was prepared by a dedicated group of NTP members and included valuable input from experienced and concerned SIA members. Attached is a draft copy of a 2nd SIA submission which needs to be finalised and lodged with the Royal Commission by 14 May. It has been prepared by George Rechnitzer and Kelvin Blackney CFSIA and is largely based upon the excellent work that Kelvin has been proactively undertaking as "Community Fire Safety Culture (CFSC)" since the tragic events of February 2009.
SIA members are invited to send comments on this draft SIA submission, by no later than COB 12 May please, to natadmin@sia.org.au, with copies to George and Kelvin at georger@netspace.net.au and kelvin.blackney@optusnet.com.au respectively.
Although the Royal Commission website advises that Public Submissions closed in April, I have been advised this morning that the Royal Commission would welcome our additional submission.
