Dear SIA Members

On 18 May 2009, the SIA submitted a comprehensive submission to the 2009 Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission which had been prepared by the Institute's National Technical Panel (NTP), under the direction of NTP Chair, Dr George Rechnitzer FSIA and Dr Geoff Dell CFSIA, Dean College of Fellows.

The Royal Commissions' Interim Report was released on 17 August. Information on access to this report can be obtained from the Royal Commission website http://www.royalcommission.vic.gov.au/ . This website also lists all the submissions lodged, including the SIA' as the first submission under "S".

Attached, for the information of all members, is a copy of a SIA Media Release that was widely distributed today with the approval of Barry Silburn CFSIA, SIA National President and Sue Pilkington FSIA SIA VIC Division President. It emphasises the Institute's grave concern that the critical lessons from the Black Saturday bushfires on 9 February 2009 have not yet been understood by the Victorian Government, emergency services management and the at-risk Victorian Community.
