Join us for an online workshop - Understanding your organisation – A Thinking Sprint.  The Thinking Sprints session goes for 2 hours with each session being limited to 12 participants.

Occupational Health and Safety professionals need to work within organisations and contribute to overall organisational goals rather than attempt to impose OHS change from outside the organisational context.

With the objective of supporting OHS professionals in understanding their organisation, the OHS Body of Knowledge recently published a new chapter titled The Organisation. The chapter discusses the complexity of organisations and the scope of relevant theory and explores three ‘lenses’ – metaphorical, structural and integral –which OHS professionals can apply to assist their understanding of organisations.

As part of the launch this chapter we have developed a virtual Thinking Sprint to enable OHS professionals to engage in a challenging dialogue that applies the principles outlined in the chapter to enable them to analyse and understand their organisation.

A Thinking Sprint is not a webinar. It is not a presentation with many PowerPoints. It is a fast paced, interactive, uncommon, online conversation that is anything but a webinar (at least that’s what participants so far have told us when we have utilised this method to explore other topics). The participants also do most of the talking, guided by some questions in two or three breakout sessions.

This is a time in the history of organisational life like no other. Extraordinary circumstances have given rise to conditions that are rich, ripe and rife with choices. These choices arise from the fissures between the necessity for fast-paced change and adaptation, on one hand, and the need for a dependable and reliable context on the other. This Thinking Sprint will give participants an opportunity to explore the concept of the organisation and how the OHS professional ‘fits’ in this context.

You will have an opportunity to spend some time with a small cohort of your peers taking a deep dive into questions that will lead to a greater understanding of the concept of organisational life, and the OHS professional’s role in this.

During the Thinking Sprint, we will ask you consider the organisation within which you work through the four lenses of Systems, Culture, Perspective and Capability, and how you can utilise these four lenses to truly understand how you can influence and contribute to positive change.
