Workshop

Join us on this AIHS endorsed program where you will be provided with insight into psychosocial hazards and risk within the WA mining sector.

This 4-day program (delivered face to face over several months), is heavily subsidised by DMIRS under the WA Government’s Mental Awareness Respect & Safety (MARS) program. It is designed to develop internal capability to drive change in WA mining sector and assisting companies to meet their requirements under the new WA WHS Act. The program will equip participants to create mentally healthy workplaces through the identification, assessment and mitigation of psychosocial hazards and risk in the workplace in a systematic and sustainable way.

Note: participants must attend all 4 days: Tues 27 June, Wed 28 June, Thurs 10 Aug and Fri 22 Sep

Learning Outcomes:

Through reflective learning, peer support & practical application, participants will:

  • Increase knowledge of psychosocial hazards & impacts in the workplace, including mining & FIFO specific hazards
  • Develop awareness of existing tools & processes available to proactively identify and assess psychosocial hazards
  • Understand the importance of consultation in creating a mentally healthy workplace
  • Practice identifying psychosocial hazards and conducting risk assessments in the workplace
  • Develop evidence-based, effective and sustainable solutions to mitigate psychosocial hazards in their workplace
  • Develop informal networks & support through cohorts across the industry

Who Should Attend:

All WA mining representatives responsible for, or involved in identifying, assessing & mitigating psychosocial risk, including:

  • Operational leaders, including Frontline Supervisors
  • Site leadership representatives
  • Health & Safety leaders, professionals and practitioners
  • Human Resources practitioners and professionals
  • Employee representatives, including H&S Representatives
  • Frontline workers participating in hazard identification, assessment and mitigation 

Examples of supporting industry companies include transportation, camp/site services/management, and operational service providers

Your Trainers and coaches: 

Sandra Lam: BPsych, MPsych, MBA

Sandra is an endorsed organisational psychologist and organisational development professional with over two decades of industry experience in the public and private sectors in Australia and overseas.

As the managing director of FIFO Focus, she established the company to empower individuals to become mentally resilient and support employers to manage the complexities of psychological health among remote workers.

Throughout her career, Sandra has assisted organisations to:

  • improve organisational performance by coaching individuals to become resilient and mentally tough,
  • build effective and psychologically safe teams,
  • supports leaders to leverage their strengths and develop supportive characteristics, and
  • partners with organisations to create psychologically healthy workplaces.

Sandra has experience working with mining & resources, energy, government, defence industries and international AID.

 

Sharon Rudderham: BPsych, MPsych

Sharon is a registered psychologist with significant industry experience in coaching, business partnering & human resources leadership roles.

Sharon is passionate about coaching individuals & leaders to achieve their full potential by:

  • Increasing self-awareness & developing resilience & strategies to thrive Building psychologically safe & high performance teams
  • Supporting leaders to gain personal insights, leverage strengths, & develop supportive characteristics to improve effectiveness to grow & stretch themselves and their teams
  • Sharon has partnered with organisations to create psychologically healthy workplaces & improve performance by making workplaces safer, more engaging, inclusive, & enjoyable

Sharon has extensive in-house experience in human resources leadership roles within the mining and oil & gas sectors and experience consulting within the government, education and agricultural chemical production sectors.
